Market Wines – Weekely Tasting – January 29 & 30, 2011

Once again, a chilly winter weekend is upon us…so that means we are tasting one white and three red wines.  But, the great news is that three of those wines are new to the shop!

   VinumCheninViognier

To start, we are sampling an interesting California blend of Chenin Blanc and Viognier.  An excellent choice for Thai Curries or Indian food due to its high natural acidity and floral/clove character, it is a very refreshing wine.    Buy a bottle today and put it away for a summer celebration!

We will follow with a new blend from Spain’s Jumilla region.  A blend of Monastrell, Cabernet and Syrah, this earthy, fruit forward wine would be wonderful with many Mediterranean dishes and is a great value!

Our third new wine is a French southern Rhone blend of mostly Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Carignan.  Filled with aromas of very ripe fruit, and leather and herbs, the taste of this wine is is sensual and is distinguished by a good balance of freshness.  Great with roast chicken or beef.

Our final wine is not new to the shop but is one we haven’t tasted yet.  This full-bodied dry Italian red is mostly Sangiovese grapes and has layers of flavor with a balanced acidity.

Beer tasting at Market Wines – January 22 & 23, 2011

BEER!  Yes, we are finally doing a beer tasting again!  This weekend, in conjunction with the 7th Annual Goldstar Chili Cookoff at Findlay Market , we will be tasting five different beers.

 Beertasting

We are starting with a mild yet flavorful copper hued ale with toasty malt and subtle citrus hop flavor and aroma. Great with BBQ and spicy dishes

The second beer is a winter seasonal – a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes.  Drink it now or put it away for a few years – it becomes wiser with age.

Number three is a copper colored pale ale that pairs nicely with Mediterranean foods, starches and anything with fresh herbs. The floral hop character also blends with cheesy dishes like pizza, pasta and dips.

Next is a limited release blended ale that combines hop-heavy and oak aged pale ales into one impressive new brew.

We will finish with a beer made with milk sugar (lactose) giving it a nice creamy mouth feel mingled with hints of chocolate and roasty flavors.

Come join us!

Cheers!

For our first tasting of the new year, we are bring out some old favorites that we haven’t sampled for quite awhile and one new wine.

      TinazziDugal

To begin with, we have fun white blend from California that combines seven different grape varietals.   Fresh, fruity, slightly sweet and spicy, this wine pairs nicely with sushi, fruit and cheese plates or Asian cuisine.

Our next two wines are a couple of great bargains from Spain.  First is  a lovely delicate rosé from Catalunya offering strawberry, raspberry and pear fruit flavors with just a touch of almond on the finish.  Next is a juicy Tempranillo – ruby-red with cherry and red berries on the nose and palate.  Both only $8.99 each.

Our last wine of the day is a new one to the shop.  This Italian Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend is a beautiful, full bodied red that goes well with pasta, roasts or mushroom risotto.

You know you made a resolution to try new things – how about some new wine?
